Andrew Anglin (born July 27, 1984) is an American white nationalist and the editor of The Daily Stormer. Anglin founded the website on July 4, 2013 as a faster-pace replacement for his original website Total Fascism, where he posted his long-form essays on fascism, race, and conspiracy theories involving Jews. He is also the founder of Gamer Uprising, a website that opposes the ongoing SJW convergence in the video game industry, though it also discusses a variety of other topics ranging from politics to general life. A former left-wing activist, Anglin is a highly controversial figure within the white nationalist movement for a variety of different reasons, such as his encouragement of violence, particularly towards women. As such, and combined with his former left-wing past, he is often considered to be part of the controlled opposition.[1]

History

Anglin was born in Columbus, Ohio. He has stated to the media and technology company Vocativ that he was liberal as a youth, and as a teenager he read works by Noam Chomsky and "all that Communist, Jewish stuff". His former classmates at the Linworth Alternative Program and the Worthington Christian High School, which he attended from 1999 to 2003, told local website Columbus Alive that they remembered him as a dreadlocked vegan who was outspoken on social and political issues, from a liberal perspective.[2] Anglin studied at Columbus State Community College in 2003 and in 2008 he moved to the Philippines to teach English.

Transition to white nationalism

In 2012, Anglin wrote that he found the locals to be "a civilized, non-aggressive and industrious people" but he eventually became lonely and only wanted to associate with members of his own race, and "By the Grace of God, I found Adolf Hitler".

In 2012, Anglin launched his first website, Adventure Quest 2012, which discussed conspiracy theories, most particularly the Reptilians. He described the aim of the site as seeking to "mend the wounds produced by modern society ... and [help] the reader transcend these physical bonds and reach total ascendancy. To mend these wounds, the world must learn to embrace diversity and color." He later studied Buddhism, Islam and 20th-century French philosophy before aligning himself with white nationalism. Later that year, he launched his first fascist website, Total Fascism, before founding The Daily Stormer the following year. In 2014, he stated that “The term "neo-Nazi" is clearly a slur, and I’m not certain I want to repeat everything like it was in Hitler’s Germany. But I agree with all the core principles of National Socialism."[3]

Controversies

Anglin is a highly controversial figure for various reasons, both among the left-wing establishment and amongst other pro-white activists.

In January 2015, Anglin sparred with Kyle Rogers, the then-webmaster of the Council of Conservative Citizens' website. Anglin complained about a "rather rude email" from Rogers over the reprinting of Rogers’ articles on the Daily Stormer without permission. He went on to say that Rogers' response was "deeply personally insulting, given how much I've supported him and his organization."

Counter-Currents, a prominent white nationalist website and publishing house, has also described Anglin as "slumming and pandering because of mistaken ideas" and "burning through brain cells by using stimulants."

When asked about all these feuds in early 2015, Anglin told the Southern Poverty Law Center that "I try to be fair and polite to all people."[4]

Criticisms

Basic leftist criticisms of Anglin and the Daily Stormer more generally can easily be found on politically correct websites, such as Wikipedia, RationalWiki, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Angry White Men. There are many less politically correct criticisms.[5] See the "External links" section for more.
