Another Ticket is the seventh studio album by the British rock musician Eric Clapton, released in 1981.
Release
It was his last album for Polydor Records, and wasn't promoted by the record company because they got offended by Clapton's decision to part company with the firm.[citation needed] Another Ticket was recorded at the Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas and features fellow country guitarist Albert Lee.[1] The album was originally released as a gramophone record, accompanied by a music cassette. In 1990 the album was released on compact disc format[2] and was made available for digital music download in 1996.[3]
Chart performance
The studio album was successful in the charts, reaching the Top 40 in eight countries, four of which, it peaked in the Top 10. In New Zealand, the release reached its highest position on number three. In Norway and in the United States, Another Ticket placed itself on positions five and seven. The last Top 10 that the album was on, is in France, where it peaked on number nine on the charts compiled by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique. In the United Kingdom, the release placed itself on position 18. In Germany, the album reached number 26. In Japan, the record sold more than 25,000 copies, charting at number 32 on the Oricon albums chart.[4] In the Netherlands, Another Ticket peaked at 38. The album was certified with a gold disc in the United States, Canada and Norway. Over the year, the album sold a total of 800,000 copies worldwide.
Critical reception
For his AllMusic review, critic William Ruhlmann notes immediately, the album is a "star-crossed album" and "not too shabby". Ruhlmann finishes his review, stating the album "wasn't great Clapton, but it was good, and it deserved more recognition than conditions allowed it at the time".[1] Rolling Stone journalist John Piccarella awarded the album four out of five possible stars, a rare Rolling Stone rating for any rock album at the time. He notes: "It's about murder. As an artist often criticized for mellowing out, Eric Clapton has succeeded in making very popular music from an authentic and deeply tragic blues sensibility. He addresses both the heart and the charts in the same way: with a bullet."[5]
