The Association for Israel Studies is a scholarly organization founded in 1985. It is open to scholars in the social sciences and humanities who study the modern state of Israel. AIS is an affiliated member organization of the Middle East Studies Association of North America. The Association has over 200 members in 2005.[1]

Political inclination

Although the Association was founded by scholars dissatisfied with bias against Israel in the Middle East Studies Association, the organization is scholarly, and does not take political positions.[2]

Criticism

The Association has been accused of giving "center stage" to anti-Israel scholars, legitimizing their views.[3]
