Balloch railway station is a railway station serving the town of Balloch in Scotland. The station is a terminus on the North Clyde Line, 19¾ miles (31 km) north west of Glasgow Queen Street railway station. The station is managed by Abellio ScotRail.

History

Balloch station opened on 24 April 1988, replacing the former Balloch Central station which was situated immediately north of a level crossing.[1][2] Closure of this level crossing was made possible by the closure of the previous terminus station - Balloch Pier - half a mile to the north (1986), and the new Balloch station being located south thereof.[3] Opened by British Rail and SPTE.

There is a half-hourly service from Balloch to Glasgow Queen Street via Singer Monday - Saturday. Services continue to Airdrie, Monday to Saturday daytimes and Cumbernauld in the evenings. There is one train per day to Edinburgh Waverley (the corresponding arrival, however, only runs from Bathgate).

On Sundays the service runs via Yoker and Glasgow Central, then hourly to Motherwell via Whifflet and hourly to Larkhall.

Services terminate here at the single platform and remain there for around ten minutes, if possible, before departing.
