Ballystrudder or Ballystruder (from Irish: Baile Strudair, meaning "Strudar’s townland")[1] is a small village and townland (of 255 acres)[2] on Islandmagee in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the historic barony of Belfast Lower and the civil parish of Islandmagee.[2] It is part of Mid and East Antrim District Council. It had a population of 992 people in the 2011 Census.[3]

2001 Census

Ballystrudder is classified as a Small Village by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (i.e. with population between 500 and 1,000 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 781 people living in Ballystrudder. Of these:

  • 26.4% were aged under 16 years and 14.5% were aged 60 and over
  • 46.7% of the population were male and 53.3% were female
  • 3.6% were from a Catholic background and 90.8% were from a Protestant background
  • 3.0% of people aged 16-74 were unemployed
