The Balochistan leopard was proposed as a subspecies of leopard in the Twentieth Century, with the taxonomic name Panthera pardus sindica (Pocock, 1930), native to the Asian region of Balochistan.[1][2][3] A morphological analysis of skulls of Middle Eastern leopards, including those from the Arabian Peninsula and Balochistan (in Iran and Pakistan, but not Afghanistan), implied that it is a subspecies of leopard, different from the Arabian leopard and Persian leopard.[1] However, the analysis did not include leopards from Afghanistan, Kashmir (home to the Kashmir leopard), or India (the namesake home of the Indian leopard).
