Bardhaman Sadar South subdivision is a subdivision of the Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Memari municipality and six community development blocks: Khandaghosh, Jamalpur, Memari–I, Memari –II, Raina–I and Raina–II. The six blocks contain 58 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Memari.

Area

Apart from the Memari municipality, the subdivision contains rural areas of 58 gram panchayats under six community development blocks: Khandaghosh, Jamalpur, Memari–I, Memari –II, Raina–I and Raina–II.[1] There is no urban area under any of these six blocks.[2]

Blocks

Khandaghosh block

Rural area under Khandaghosh block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Berugram, Khandaghosh, Shankari–I, Ukhrid, Gopalbera, Lodna, Shankari–II, Kaiyar, Sagrai and Sasanga.[1] Khandaghosh police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Sagrai.[4]

Jamalpur block

Rural area under Jamalpur block consists of 13 gram panchayats, viz. Abujhati–I, Chakdighi, Jarogram, Paratal–II, Abujhati–II, Jamalpur–I, Jyotsreeram, Ajhapur, Jamalpur–II, Panchrah, Berugram, Jaugram, Paratal–I.[1] Jamalpur police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Jamalpur.[4]

Memari–I block

Rural area under Memari–I block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Amadpur, Daluibazar–II, Gop–Gantar–I, Nimo–II, Bagila, Debipur, Gop–Gantar–II, Daluibazar–I, Durgapur and Nimo–I.[1] Memari police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Memari.[4]

Memari–II block

Rural area under Memari–II block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Bara Palasan–I, Bijur–II, Kuchut, Bara Palasan–II, Bohar–I, Satgachhia–I, Bijur–I, Bohar–II, Satgachhia–II.[1] Memari police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Paharhati.[4]

Raina–I block

Rural area under Raina–I block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Hijalna, Narugram, Palsona, Sehara, Mugura, Natu, Raina and Shyamsundar.[1] Raina and Madhabdihi police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Shyamsundar.[4]

Raina–II block

Rural area under Raina–II block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Arui, Gotan, Pahalanpur, Painta–II, Barabainan, Kaiti, Painta–I and Uchalan.[1] Madhabdihi police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Madhabdihi.[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:[5]

  • The Memari municipality area, the Memari–I block, and the gram panchayats of Kuchut and Satgachhia–II under the Memari–II block will form the area under the Memari assembly constituency of West Bengal.
  • The other seven gram panchayats under the Memari–II block will be part of the area under the Monteswar assembly constituency.
  • The Jamalpur block and the Mugura gram panchayat under the Raina–I block will define the area under the Jamalpur assembly constituency.
  • The other seven gram panchayats under the Raina–I block and the area under the Raina–II block will form the Raina assembly constituency.
  • The Khandaghosh block will be part of the domain of the Khandaghosh assembly constituency.
  • The constituencies of Khandaghosh, Jamalpur and Raina will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates.
  • The Khandaghosh constituency will be an assembly segment of the Bishnupur (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.
  • The constituencies of Raina, Jamalpur and Memari will be assembly segments of the Bardhaman Purba (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.
  • The Monteswar constituency will be an assembly segment under the Bardhaman-Durgapur (Lok Sabha constituency).
