Beena Kak (born 15 February 1954) is an Indian politician and Bollywood actress.

Education

Kak graduated from Home Science College, Udaipur in 1978. She received a Master's degree from University of Baroda, Gujarat. Her sister, Kamla Bhasin, is a writer and feminist activist,[1] while her brothers are Dr. B.B. Bhasin, based in the U.K., and B.B. Bhasin, a retired IPS officer; her other sister, Kusum Suri (née Bhasin) was a retired school teacher in the U.S.

Political career

Kak was a four-time Member of the Legislative Assembly in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Sumerpur constituency. She was Cabinet Minister of Woman & Child Development, Tourism, Art & Culture, Archeology, Printing & Stationery departments. She was also the Minister of State for Tourism and Cultural Affairs of Rajasthan from 1998 to 2003.[2]

Kak lost the election in Rajasthan assembly election, 2013 from her constituency Sumerpur to the opposition party BJP by a reasonable margin of 42,643 votes.[3][4]

Film career

Kak is close to Salman Khan's family. As a Bollywood actress, she made her debut in David Dhawan's 2005 film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, where she acted as the hot-headed mother of Samir (Salman Khan).

She recently appeared in Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love. In 2008, she appeared as Khan's mother again in God Tussi Great Ho. She has also acted in Nanhe Jaisalmer and Dulha Mil Gaya.

Personal life

Kak's daughter, Amrita Kak, has several hit songs, such as "Just Chill" (Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?), "Tujhe Aksa Beach" (God Tussi Great Ho), "Love Me Love Me" (Wanted), "Character Dheela" (Ready) and "Dhinka chika" (Ready), umeed(Dangerous Ishhq)

Kak's daughter was married on 29 May 2010. The older of the two children is Ankur, who is a trained chef and has restaurants running in Jaipur. He married Milan Rai in 2009.
