Isabella "Bella" Khair Hadid (/həˈdd/); (born October 9, 1996) is an American fashion model, signed to IMG Models in 2014. She was born in California in 1996 to Yolanda Hadid and Mohamed Hadid.

Early life

Bella Hadid was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of television personality and former 80's model Yolanda Hadid (née Van den Herik) and multi-millionaire real-estate developer Mohamed Hadid. She is of Palestinian and Dutch descent. Hadid has one older sister, model Gigi Hadid, and a younger brother, Anwar Hadid. She has two older half-sisters, Marielle and Alana, on her father's side and five stepsisters from her stepfather, David Foster.

Hadid and her siblings were originally raised on a ranch in Santa Barbara and then moved out to Malibu while she was still in elementary school.[2] In 2012, her mother became a star on reality show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but kept Hadid and the rest of her children off camera as much as possible.

As a teenager, Hadid was an equestrian player and originally had dreams to attend the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro but was unable to train and compete due to her suffering Lyme disease.[3] It was announced that she suffered from Lyme in October 2015.[4] She and both her mother and little brother, Anwar, were all diagnosed with the disease in 2012.

In Fall of 2014, Hadid moved to New York City and began studying photography at the Parsons School of Design, signing to IMG shortly after. She has since dropped out of school due to the success of her modeling career. She has expressed interest in wanting to go back to school and take on Fashion Photography as a career once she is done modeling.[5] Hadid has also expressed interest in writing and acting once she is done with her modeling, as well.

Career

Before Signing to IMG: Early Work

Hadid signed to IMG Models in August 2014. Before officially signing to the agency she; starred in the "Swan Sittings" by Lesa Amoore alongside actor Ben Barnes and "Smoking Hot" by Holly Copeland, modeled for Hannah Hayes F/W 2013 collection, various commercial projects such as, and had done campaign work for ChromeHearts in summer 2013.

August 2014-15: Rise of a Break Out Star

Hadid made her New York Fashion Week debut in September 2014 walking for Desigual's show. In 2015, she has walked for Tom Ford, Diane von Fürstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Jeremy Scott (she closed his show), Balmain, and Marc Jacobs at New York Fashion Week in September 2015. Topshop Unique, Burberry and Giles at London Fashion Week. Philipp Plein, Moschino, Missoni, and Bottega Veneta at Milan Fashion Week. In December 2015 she made her Chanel debut, walking for the first time in the luxury brand's Métiers d'Art show in Rome.[6][7] She also walked in the amfAR 22nd Cinema Against AIDs Gala fashion show in May.

Hadid appeared on the November 2015 cover of Seventeen and has shot editorials for magazines, including Vogue Australia and Elle.[8] Hadid was also on the cover of Unconditional Magazine, Grey Magazine, Jalouse Magazine, V Magazine (with sister, Gigi), Editorialist, Wonderlands 10th Birthday Issue, S Moda, Evening Standard, and Twin Magazines ten magazine covers for the year of 2015. Hadid also featured in numerous editorials for the following magazines; Teen Vogue, [[Vogue Girl F/W Issue.[9][10] This adds up to Japan|Vogue Girl]] Japan, Harpers Bazaar, GQ, W Magazine, Town and Country, Pop Magazine, three for Glamour Magazine, and two for Love Magazine; along with many others. She was also featured on Love Magazine's Love Advent Day 27 in 2014 and Day 14 and 15 in 2015. Hadid also made an appearance in two CR Fashion Book's- "Body Book" and "Fantasy Campaigns".

Hadid was one of eight young models to land Topshop's holiday campaign and appeared in Balmain F/W 2015 ad campaign (which she starred in alongside Gigi).[11] She was also featured in Botkier Bag Spring/Summer, ChromeHearts eyewear Fall/Winter, and Ralph Lauren Denim Supply Campaigns. She was also a co-star in Samsung's Fall/Winter Look Book which incorporated both technology and fashion.

At the end of 2015, she was awarded Model.com's Break Out Star: Women for Reader's Choice Category.

2016: Model of the Year

Soon after the start of the new year, in March, Hadid won 'Model of the Year' at the Daily Front Rows Fashion Los Angeles Awards for her skyrocketing career so far in 2015 and the accomplishments she was already racking up in 2016.[12]

In January, Hadid made her Chanel Couture debut during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.[13] She walked exclusively for Givenchy and walked for Chanel and Miu Miu at their shows in Paris Fashion Week in March 2016, as well as walking for FentyxPuma in New York Fashion Week in February 2016.[14] She also made her first Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia appearance in May 2016 by excusively opening and closing the Misha Resort 2017 show.[15] In May she also walked for the amfAR 23rd Cinema Against AIDs fashion show, later that month she walked for Dior Cruise 2017 in London.[16][17]

So far in 2016, she has graced the covers of Harper's Bazaar Spain and Korea, Elle Brasil, Allure Magazine, Double Magazine, Galmour Germany, Exit Magazine, and W Magazine Korea.[18][19][20][21] In May, Hadid spotlighted on her first Vogue cover for Vogue Turkey and she followed up this feature on the cover of her first major American fashion magazine, Elle US, in June.[22][23] She also had editorials in these magazines, as well as in; Glamour UK, GQ UK, LOVE Club, and an online editorial in Vogue for Valentine's Day. She appeared in issue #44 of Self Service's Magazine, as well as CR Fashion Book's "#CR Girls".[24][25] Another notable editorial for the February issue of the V Magazine, which also featured famous names such as her sister Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls and Jerry Hall, was shot by star designer Karl Lagerfeld.[26]

Hadid is also featured in the "My America" campaign by Marc Jacobs, TopShop's Denim Campaign for Summer 2016, starred in Joe's Jeans 2016 campaign, and Misha Collection's Resort and Misha Gold campaign as the new face of the brand.[15][27][28] On May 31 it was announced that Hadid is the new ambassador of Dior Makeup and would be starring in a new web series from the fashion house called 'Dior Makeup Live with Bella Hadid' starting in June.[29]

Personal life

In July 2014, Hadid was arrested and charged with a DUI.[34] Her driver's license was suspended for one year and she was given six months of probation.[35] Hadid was also ordered to perform 25 hours of community service and attend 20 hours of AA meetings.[36]

Hadid began dating Canadian singer The Weeknd the beginning of 2015, the couple were first seen together in April at Coachella.[37][38] Hadid starred in his Music Video "In the Night" in December 2015.
