Berlin Township is the southernmost community in the great lakes and is one of the nine townships of Erie County, Ohio, United States. It is part of the Sandusky, Ohio metropolitan statistical area. The 2000 census found 3,702 people in the township, 3,017 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township.[3]

  • Ceylon is an unincorporated community located within the northern portion of the township along U.S. Route 6 and State Route 61.
  • Oberlin Beach is an unincorporated community located within the northwest portion of the township along the shore of Lake Erie along U.S. Route 6.
  • Ogontz is an unincorporated community located within the eastern portion of the township near Edison Woods Reserve.
  • Shinrock is an unincorporated community located within the western portion of the township.

Located in the eastern part of the county along Lake Erie, it borders the following townships:

Name and history

Statewide, other Berlin Townships are located in Delaware, Holmes, Knox, and Mahoning Counties.[4]

Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[5] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
