Bhosari, formally known as Bhojapur, is a place in PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) in Pune of Maharashtra state, India.

History

The original name of Bhosari is Bhojapur, which was the capital of King Bhoj, a legendary king who ruled central parts of India two thousand years ago. During the period of Mahabharata this city was known as Bhojakata, the capital of the Bhoja-Yadava king Rukmi. It has a history of talims (gyms) and kushti (wrestling).

Bhosari is situated at a height of 530 ft above the sea level. Bhosari is blessed with salubrious climate all the year round. Excavated by Archaeologists, the 2000-year-old 'Artist temple' and the "Artist Mahal" situated at Bhosari or the erstwhile Bhojapur is one of the monuments of interest in the township. King Bhoj is known to have organized many cultural events here. The artists performing at the Artist Mahal had their residence three kilometers away from the capital city. During excavation of the city, Archaeologists have also discovered many artifacts like pots and other equipments, which date back to 200 A.D.

Bhosari village has a history dating to Gautam Buddha's era.

Location

Bhosari is situated 14 km north of Pune. The NH 50 (Pune - Nashik National Highway) goes through Bhosari.
