Bishnupur subdivision is a subdivision of the Bankura district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Bishnupur municipality, Sonamukhi municipality and six community development blocks: Indas, Joypur, Patrasayar, Kotulpur, Sonamukhi and Bishnupur. The six blocks contain 56 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Bishnupur.

Area

Apart from Bishnupur municipality and Sonamukhi municipality, the subdivision contains rural areas of 56 gram panchayats under six community development blocks: Indas, Joypur, Patrasayar, Kotulpur, Sonamukhi and Bishnupur.[1]

Blocks

Indas block

Indas block consists of rural areas with ten gram panchayats, viz. Akui–I, Dighalgram, Karisunda, Sahaspur, Akui–II, Indas–I, Mongalpur, Amrul, Indas–II and Rol.[1] Indas police station serves this block.[2] Headquarters of this block is in Indas.[3]

Joypur block

Joypur block consists of rural areas with nine gram panchayats, viz. Gelia, Kuchiakol, Salda, Hetia, Maynapur, Shyamnagar, Jagannathpur, Rautkhanda and Uttarbarh.[1] Joypur police station serves this block.[2] Headquarters of this block is in Joypur.[3]

Patrasayar block

Patrasayar block consists of rural areas with ten gram panchayats, viz. Balsi–I, Belut–Rasulpur, Jamkuri, Patrasayar, Balsi–II, Biur–Betur, Kushdwip, Beersingha, Hamirpur and Narayanpur.[1] Patrasayar police station serves this block.[2] Headquarters of this block is in Patrasayar.[3]

Kotulpur block

Kotulpur block consists of rural areas with eight gram panchayats, viz. Deshrahkoyalpara, Kotulpur, Lego, Mirzapur, Gopinathpur, Laugram, Madanmohanpur and Sihar.[1] Kotulpur police station serves this block.[2] Headquarters of this block is in Kotulpur.[3]

Sonamukhi block

Sonamukhi block consists of rural areas with ten gram panchayats, viz. Coochdihi, Dihipara, Panchal, Radhamohanpur, Dhansimla, Hamirhati, Piarbera, Dhulai, Manikbazar and Purbanabasan.[1] Sonamukhi police station serves this block.[2] Headquarters of this block is in Sonamukhi.[3]

Bishnupur block

Bishnupur block consists of rural areas with nine gram panchayats, viz. Ayodhya, Bhara, Morar, Bankadaha, Dwarika–Gossainpur, Radhanagar, Belsulia, Layekbandh and Uliyara.[1] Bishnupur police station serves this block.[2] Headquarters of this block is in Bishnupur.[3]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:[4]

  • The municipal area of Bishnupur and the Bishnupur block will be part of the area under the Bishnupur assembly constituency of West Bengal.
  • The Sonamukhi municipality area, the Sonamukhi block, and five gram panchayats under the Patrasayar block — Belut–Rasulpur, Beersingha, Hamirpur, Narayanpur and Patrasayar — will together define the area under the Sonamukhi assembly constituency.
  • The other five gram panchayats under the Patrasayar block, the Indas block and the gram panchats of Laugram and Madanmohanpur under the Kotulpur block will together form the Indus assembly constituency.
  • The other six gram panchayats under the Kotulpur block, and the area under the Joypur block will together define the domain of the Katulpur assembly constituency.
  • The constituencies of Sonamukhi, Katulpur and Indus will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates.
  • All the four constituencies will be assembly segments of the Bishnupur (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.
