Bonham was a British hard rock band founded in 1989 by drummer Jason Bonham, the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. The band's most successful line-up included singer Daniel MacMaster, bassist/keyboardist John Smithson and guitarist Ian Hatton.

History
In 1990, their debut album The Disregard of Timekeeping topped the rock airplay charts on the success of the single "Wait for You" and helped Bonham garner a gold record from the RIAA in 1990. The band toured extensively for two years, but the impact of such early success on its young members caused a great deal of internal friction. After a lengthy tour, Bonham released their second and final album together, Mad Hatter. Jason Bonham then decided to concentrate on session work and writing new music.
In 1994, Jason Bonham reunited with Ian Hatton and John Smithson from his former band, this time featuring new lead vocalist Marti Frederiksen. This new lineup was known as Motherland. They released one album titled Peace 4 Me. Following the abortive Motherland project, Jason put together the Jason Bonham Band, recruiting lead vocalist Chas West, guitarist Tony Catania, and Smithson on bass and keyboards. Their 1997 album When You See the Sun was produced by ex-Motherland lead vocalist Marti Frederiksen and features backing vocals by Jason's aunt Debbie Bonham on the track "Turning Back the Time". It was preceded by In the Name of My Father - The Zepset - Live from Electric Ladyland, released by the Bonham / West / Catania / Smithson line-up earlier that same year.
On March 16, 2008, former lead vocalist Daniel MacMaster died at the age of 39 from a Group A streptococcal infection.[1]
Original Bonham vocalist Paul Rafferty, together with fellow Brit Sean Manning, former guitarist for Quiet Riot and Hurricane, released the Led Zeppelin influenced The Exiles album in 1996 under the name Sean Manning & Paul Rafferty. He has since retired from music and become a respected painter[1] based in the South of France, California and London.[2] Rafferty guested with guitarist Joe Bonamassa at several stops during the 2009 The Ballad of John Henry tour, including the Nice Jazz Festival,[3] and again the following year on the Black Rock tour, including the show in Zagreb, Croatia.[2]
Post-Bonham bands and projects
Bonham appeared in the movies in 2000 as part of the fictitious band Steel Dragon fronted by actor Mark Wahlberg in the film Rock Star (also known as Metal God). His partners in this project were Dokken bassist Jeff Pilson and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde.
Bonham joined American act Healing Sixes in 2000. This act had supported the Jason Bonham Band in America previously. He would subsequently go on to join the Quireboys and then veteran act UFO, appearing on their 2004 album You Are Here. Meanwhile, West resurfaced in the Los Angeles club scene in early 2004 fronting a unit dubbed the Hollywood Allstarz, which also featured Dokken and Dio bassist Jeff Pilson, the former Quiet Riot duo of guitarist Carlos Cavazo and drummer Frankie Banali, former Giuffria/House of Lords drummer Alan Krigger, and former Rainbow/Dio bassist Jimmy Bain. West, Cazavo and Bain, together with drummer Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio) and former David Lee Roth guitarist Brian Young, recorded under the name 3 Legged Dogg, releasing an album's worth of original music, titled Frozen Summer, in 2006.[4] West was also the vocalist on Dweller on the Threshold by L.A. Latin rockers Tribe of Gypsies.[5]
With UFO's North American tour postponed until autumn 2004, Jason Bonham filled the summer break by touring the United States as a member of AOR veterans Foreigner. Early 2005 found both Bonham and Chas West touring with Foreigner. In October 2006, West appeared as guest vocalist on a cover version of the Journey song "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" featured on the Cleopatra Records homage collection '80s Metal Tribute to Journey. West also appeared as guest vocalist on "Custard Pie", featured on the September 2007 tribute to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, 24/7/365: The Tribute to Led Zeppelin, by Frankie Banali & Friends, by RSM Records.
Between 2009 and 2013, Jason Bonham was a member of English-American supergroup Black Country Communion along with bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Trapeze), guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa, and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Billy Idol). The group disbanded after 3 albums following Bonamassa's decision to exit the project.[6][7] Hughes and Bonham launched a new trio, California Breed,[8] in early 2014 but Bonham announced his departure in November 2014.[9] Bonham has been touring off and on since 2010 with his Led Zeppelin Experience which also features guitarist Tony Catania from the mid-'90s Jason Bonham Band line-up.[10]
Jason Bonham and other Bonham family members were on hand September 25, 2010 at the Key Club in West Hollywood, CA for the "Bonzo: The Groove Remains The Same" all-star bash to celebrate the life of John Bonham.[11][12] Chas West, as a member of the Moby Dicks, which also feature keyboardist Stephen LeBlanc from Jason Bonham's Led Zep Experience, has been a regular performer at subsequent Bonzo Bash events and other shows.[13] Other artists West has toured with in recent years include Lynch Mob, Steve Priest's version of The Sweet, and NWOBHM veterans Diamond Head.[14]
In early 2014, West was announced as the vocalist for Livin' Out Loud alongside guitarist Craig Goldy (Rough Cutt, Guiffria, Dio), bassist Sean McNabb (Quiet Riot, Great White, Dokken), and drummer Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P., Heavy Bones); they are said to be working on an album for Frontiers Records.[15] West's latest venture is Super Troup, formed in the fall of 2014 with former Bang Tango guitarist Scott LaFlamme, original Quiet Riot bassist Kelly Garni, and drummer Derrick Pontier, formerly of Great White, who are set to start writing and recording their debut album in early 2015.[16]
