Brian A. Joyce (born September 5, 1962) is a former Massachusetts State Senator and a member of the Democratic Party. He served for nine terms, representing the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth district, which includes Avon, Braintree Precincts 1A, 1B, 2A & 2B, Canton, East Bridgewater Precinct 4, Easton Precincts 3-6, Milton, Randolph, Sharon Precincts 2 & 3, Stoughton, and West Bridgewater.
On February 23, 2016, Joyce announced that he would not be seeking re-election to the Massachusetts State Senate for the next term.[2][3]

Ethics probes and criminal investigations
On February 17, 2016, the FBI and IRS conducted a raid at Joyce's Washington Street law office. Joyce is under scrutiny for various ethical improprieties alleged by Boston Globe reporters, including having his campaign fund pay for his son's high school graduation party and accepting free or discounted services from a dry cleaner in Randolph, Massachusetts. According to the FBI, the raid was part of a federal investigation, though no charges have been filed at this time.[4][5] The nature of the raid has again raised recurring questions about the close relationship between the Boston Globe and the office of Boston's U.S. Attorney, Carmen Ortiz.[6][7]
Joyce is under investigation for his relationship with a large solar power project at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. It was reported that Joyce represented both the college and the company that installed 9,000 solar panels at the college.[8]
During the winter of 2016, The Boston Globe reported that the federal government has seated a grand jury to look into Joyce’s conduct.[8]
In August 2016, Joyce put his home in Milton, Massachusetts up for sale for $1.725 million and this sale has come under scrutiny due to substantial renovations being done without the required town permits. According to town records, the home had 3,854 square feet of living space while the brochure for the sale of the home listed the living space as 6,444 square feet.[9]
On December 8, 2017, Joyce was arraigned charged with using his office as a Massachusetts State Senator for personal profit by accepting more than $1 million dollars in bribes and kickbacks. He is also charged with hiding the money by the creation of a shell corporation and counting funds as legal fees. The 113-count indictment was the result of a two-year investigation by the FBI charging Joyce with money laundering, wire fraud, racketeering, and extortion.[10]
Part of the indictment alleges that Joyce accepted hundreds of pounds of Dunkin' Donuts coffee beans in exchange for supporting legislative actions that would benefit the a single franchise with 100 locations.[11][12]
At his arraignment in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts in Worcester, Joyce pleaded not guilty to the 113 charges and released on $250,000 bail.[13][14]

Joyce is a lifelong resident of Milton, Massachusetts, where he lives with his wife, Mary. They have five children.[1]
