Capital League 1 is the second tier of men's senior football in Brisbane, Queensland (fourth overall within Australia) . It is administered and run by Football Brisbane. At the end of the regular season the top two teams are promoted to the Brisbane Premier League and the bottom two teams are relegated to the Capital League 2. There is also a finals series at the end of the regular season.

After originally operating as a twelve team competition, it was expanded to fourteen teams for season 2010, to accommodate clubs returning to the Brisbane Premier League from the now defunct Queensland State League.

History

2013 Season

2012 season

Due to the amalgamation of Beenleigh FC and Loganholme FC (Now known as Logan Lightning, who were promoted from Brisbane Premier League Division 2 in 2011 an extra space in the 14 team league became available. Therefore, Ipswich City were reinstated following their 13th place finish in 2011.

Promotion and relegation in 2012 was not guaranteed due to a revamping of the Football Brisbane competitions in 2013. Teams were awarded Brisbane Premier League status based upon club applications. This revamping also resulted in the league being renamed to Capital League 1.

2011 season

The season started 2 weeks later than planned after the 2011 Brisbane floods. Rocklea United were the worst affected club, and did not play at their home ground all season. The league table was close as the season hit the half way mark, with North Star and Queensland Lions leading after 13 rounds. At the bottom, Toowoomba Raiders lost their first 13 games of the season, only scoring 4 times during these matches.

Toowoomba Raiders were relegated with many weeks still to play, while Queensland Lions secured promotion to the Brisbane Premier League on Sunday 21 August with an 8-0 thrashing of 4th placed Western Spirit. North Star joined Lions in celebrating promotion after defeating Rocklea United on the final day - pipping Ipswich Knights by a single point. Ipswich City were the second team to be relegated after losing out to Southside Eagles on goal difference.

Media

Matches from Capital League 1 are irregularly filmed by PaulyTV and FBTV. Media outlets in Ipswich and Toowoomba in particular follow the fortunes of their local clubs.
