British School of Lomé, Togo
The British School of Lomé (BSL) was established in 1983 to serve expatriate families based in Lomé, Togo, who favoured an international education within a British framework.
The boarding facilities developed and the school now serves families based in many different countries. The school is a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged from 3 to 18 years. and is attended by pupils of 37 different nationalities.
Degrees
The school is recognised for its higher levels of education i.e.: IGCSE or GCSE, as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
Events
Many events that are organised by the students themselves between other schools around Togo as well as schools around West Africa. Since 2006, the school has attended the Model United Nations (MUN) conferences held at different times of the year.
Sports
The school encourages students to participate in charity events as well as other extra-curricular activities such as fencing, horse riding, swimming, tennis, football, and basketball.
Each year the school participates in sports tournaments in Ghana. Schools are invited from all over West Africa to play basketball, football, and volleyball.
Notable alumni
- Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the "Underwear bomber" convicted of attempting to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 to Detroit on Christmas Day 2009.[1][2]
