"Call Me Lightning" is a song by the British rock band The Who from 1968, written by main songwriter Pete Townshend.[1] It appears on the compilation album The Ultimate Collection. In the United States, it was the follow-up single to their first U.S. Top Ten hit "I Can See for Miles" and reached No. 40 in early 1968. The song was behind the naming of the rock group Call Me Lightning. The Who also made a music video to the song.[2][3]
Release
Instead of releasing the "Dogs" single in the United States, The Who and their U.S. label Decca released "Call Me Lightning" as the A-side of a U.S. single in March 1968. The Who considered the style of "Call Me Lightning" to be a bit out of date for the UK market. The single peaked at No. 40 on the U.S. singles chart. The B-side of the U.S. single "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" was written by John Entwistle. Both tracks were later included on the U.S. compilation album Magic Bus: The Who on Tour, released in September 1968. It appears on the compilation album The Ultimate Collection.
