Carlos Chandía

Carlos Luis Chandía Alarcón (born November 14, 1964 in Chillán, Chile) is an international FIFA referee since 2001. His career as a ref started in 1985 within the confines of amateur football in Chile. Since then he has been elected five times as the best referee in Chile.[citation needed]

He has officiated various international matches, examples include a final of Copa Libertadores, final of Copa Sudamericana, South American World Cup qualifiers. The highlight of his career was as a referee during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

On September 5, 2009, Chandia officiated the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers match between Peru and Uruguay. Prior to his expected retirement, Chandia will officiate the rest of the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers matches assigned to him. Chandia will turn 45 on November and therefore will not meet the age requirement to officiate at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
