Physical double stars should go in the subcategory Binary stars. If a double star is known to have an optical component, or if it is not known to be physical, place it here.

Many stars have optical companions, and there is no clear-cut criterion for what constitutes a double star. It is suggested that editors determine whether or not stars should be added to this category by consulting the Washington Double Star Catalog or a similar catalog of double and multiple stars.

Double stars are not the same as binary stars.
