Military vehicles with good off-road performance and powerful pulling capacity, used for recovering other heavy vehicles.
Some are wheeled, some are fully tracked. Most fully-tracked versions are derived from the same tank chassis they're intended to recover. Many are equipped with powerful winches, earth spades or other specialised recovery equipment.
In contrast, tank transporters are used to transport heavy vehicles, but aren't able to recover damaged or immobile vehicles without assistance.
