Chan Siu Kwan (traditional Chinese: 陳肇鈞, born 1 August 1992 in Hong Kong), also known as Philip Chan, is a Hong Kong professional footballer, usually a central midfielder, he can also operate as a full back, who currently plays for Hong Kong Premier League club South China AA.

Early life

Chan was part of the famous HLYIS side of 1998-2003, which featured the likes of goalkeeper Michael Harman, former London Wasps youngster Joshua Atkins, Sporting Journalistico FC's midfield star Harry Brent, his brother Mike Brent, midfielders Mike Lam and Michael Stroud and striker Oliver Roberts. Managed by managing guru Andy Brent, Chan and the rest of the side achieved numerous victories in a large number of local tournaments, despite having a significantly smaller pool of talent available to them compared with their league rivals.

Chan Siu Kwan went to Gremio in Brazil for football training when he was 14 for 1 year.[1][2]

He can also play as a lone striker. [1][3]

Club career

In 2011, along with his club Sham Shui Po SA's promotion to the Hong Kong First Division League, he started playing as a professional player. On 8 January 2012, Chan Siu Kwan was sent off in the match against Hong Kong Sapling after receiving two yellow cards.[4] Towards the end of the 2012 season he has established himself as a hard-tackling defensive midfielder.

After returning from a short training period with mainland Chinese side Guangzhou R&F, Chan Siu Kwan returned to Hong Kong and joined Yokohama FC Hong Kong in summer of 2012.

In June 2013, Chan Siu Kwan completed a transfer to Hong Kong giants South China and was handed the number 16 shirt.

International career

Hong Kong U21

Chan Siu Kwan is a member of the Hong Kong under-21 national football team. On 15 November 2011, he scored the equalising goal against Russia under-19 national football team in the game that celebrated Mong Kok Stadium's re-opening after renovation, but Hong Kong U21 lost 1–2 in the end.[5] Chan Siu Kwan received his first call up for the Hong Kong senior team in July 2012 by new coach Ernie Merrick against Singapore but he failed to make a debut.

Personal life

Chan Siu Kwan's father Chan Pak Hung was the Hong Kong Jockey Champions in the 1986/1987 racing season and now works as a horse trainer for the Macau Jockey Club. He also studied at Hong Lok Yuen International School and French International School in Hong Kong.[1] He also completed International Baccalaureate at South Island School. He is now studying at the University of Hong Kong.

Chan Siu Kwan is unrelated to Guangdong Sunray Cave striker Chan Siu Ki.
