Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (also called CTU) is the Public Transport unit of the Chandigarh administration in India. It is managed by Home Secretary, who also acts as Transport secretory and director.[1]

History

It came into existence in 1966 with 30 Buses.

As of 2011, CTU has 517 buses, out of which 209 buses serves chandigarh region whereas remaining are interstate covering Punjab, Himachal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttranchal, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. CTU have 117 Semi Low floor passenger friendly Buses of Bharat-II Euro norms.

CTU have lowest Staff ratio per Bus compare to other Bus Transport throughout India. They have various applications running on WWW related to Bus Ticketing Accounts system, GPF Maintenance, Salaries, Allowances etc. In Chandigarh, CTU buses follows Grid Transport System to reduce traveling time.

  • Blind People, Freedom Fighters of Chandigarh with a person, Deaf/Dumb, Mentally Retarded, Physically Disabled, War Widows along with person can use CTU local as well as long route Non A/C Bus free of cost.
  • Journalists, Thallassemic with attendant and HIV/Aids patient on Hospital trip can use Local Non A/C CTU transport for free
  • CTU also provides busses for special purposes like Tours, Marriage Parties, Educational tours on contract bases. The GM or accountant or Accounts officer is responsible person for taking contract.
  • Baby Chair, Type Writer, Gramophone, Sewing machine, 10 kg fruit basket and Pup can be carried free of cost.
  • SMS Based and IVRS system is installed for Queries for Estimated time of arrival of buses can be get.
