Ciara Phillips
Ciara Phillips is a Canadian artist of Irish ancestry based in Glasgow.[1]
Phillips was born in Ottawa, Canada. She studied Fine Art at Queen's University, Kingston, Canada (BFA 2000) and at the Glasgow School of Art (MFA 2004).[1]
On 7 May 2014, it was announced that she was one of the four nominees for the Turner Prize.[2]
Style
Phillips works mainly as a printmaker, often collaboratively. Her prints often feature abstract blocks of colour, with repeated motifs. The titles of her works frequently refer back to artist Corita Kent.
Criticism
Phillips's work has been well received. She has been described as "a brilliant print maker who imbues the medium with a freshness that is remarkable, in posters, prints and textiles." - by Moira Jeffrey in The Scotsman. [3]
Turner Prize nomination
On 7 May 2014, Phillips won the nomination for the Turner Prize for an exhibition where she turned The Showroom gallery in London into a print workshop, and invited other designers, artists and local women's groups to collaborate with her.
