College Station High School is a public high school located in College Station, Texas and at present is classified as a 5A school by the UIL. It is part of the College Station Independent School District located in southern Brazos County. In May 2009, College Station voters approved the sale of $144.2 million in bonds, including approximately $112 million for the construction of a second comprehensive high school.[2] College Station High School opened in August 2012 with freshmen and sophomores only. A grade was added each year until full implementation in August 2014. The first graduating class for College Station High School was the Class of 2015.[3]

The College Station High School Cougar Club is dedicated to the support of student athletes, coaches, and teams at the College Station High School and the College Station Middle School. The Cougar Club also collaborates with the College Station Independent School District, College Station High School PTO, A&M Consolidated High School and the A&M Consolidated Middle School. [8]

Rivalries

Thanks to the circumstances surrounding College Station High School's opening, the school can be considered to rival three other high schools. The first, A&M Consolidated High School is the only other high school in the city of College Station, and was the only one until CSHS opened in the 2012-2013 school year. In the first year of AMCHS and CSHS's rivalry AMCHS leads CSHS with a 7-5-3 record in the eight major sports: football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and baseball.[9] The second, Bryan High School, is the namesake school of College Station's sister city: Bryan, Texas. The third and final high school rival is James Earl Rudder High School, which, like College Station High School, is the second high school in its city (Bryan, TX) and the more modern of the two. In effect, all of the College Station-Bryan area's high schools rival the others: Bryan, TX with Bryan High School and James Earl Rudder High School, as well as College Station, TX with A&M Consolidated and College Station High School.

College Station HS Cougar Band

Marching Band

The College Station Cougar Marching Band is the largest spirit organization at College Station High School. The 140+ member Cougar Band performs at all high school football games, pep rallies, and the annual Bryan College Station Christmas Parade.

In addition, the Cougar Band participates in three to five marching contests per year. These contests are generally held the last Saturday of September and throughout the month of October and the first week of November (on state years). Additionally, the Cougar Band has represented Region 8 at the Area D Marching Contest since its inaugural year of 2012.

The Cougar Band also hosts its own Drumline Contest in November called "Drums Along the Brazos Drumline Contest".[10]

Symphonic Band

The CSHS Symphonic Band performs music at the highest degree of difficulty. Performances include UIL, one or more invitational festivals, two or more spring concerts, and special events.[11]

Concert Band

Students in the CSHS Concert Band participate in UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest and/or one or two festivals per school year. Additionally the concert band performs three to five concerts each year.[12]

Jazz Band

The College Station High School Jazz Band is becoming one of the most popular musical organizations at CSHS. Membership is through competitive audition. The Jazz Band performs at UIL events, TMEA/ATSSB events, invitational events and festivals, and community events. The Jazz Band also performs at special events and school district concerts during the year.[13]

Color Guard

College Station High School supports a very active and growing Color Guard program. The Color Guard, known as the “sport of the arts,” is one of the fastest growing activities in today’s high schools. The Color Guard performs and competes with the marching band in the fall, and competes separately as a visual ensemble in the spring.[14]

College Station Orchestra

The College Station High School Orchestra, currently directed by Jason Hooper, consists of a varsity and a non-varsity group. The two orchestras compete annually in UIL competitions, which test the students' skills in a prepared stage performance, as well as a sight reading event. The orchestra generally performs four concerts a year (Fall, Winter, Pre-UIL, and Spring) as well as occasional recruiting concerts at local elementary schools. In its inaugural year(2012-2013), the orchestra was conducted by Jeffrey Hill, now retired. In March of 2015, the students of the CSHS Orchestra travelled to New York City where they performed at the iconic Carnegie Hall. The orchestra's website can be found at [1]
