Creative Allies is an international online design community and fan engagement platform that provides visual artists with opportunities to create posters, T-shirts, and other merchandise for musicians, brands, festivals, and films.[1] The website has offered design opportunities for artists like Slipknot, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, Robyn, Keith Urban, Ice Cube, Passion Pit, The Offspring, Soundgarden, Ani DiFranco, Carly Rae Jepsen, OneRepublic, Beastie Boys, The Doors, MacGyver[2] and Gavin DeGraw.[3] The platform gives artists the opportunity to win prizes, and allows their designs to be sold as merchandise, earning them a commission on each sale.[4] The platform gives artists direct access to creative opportunities in addition to giving individuals an outlet to showcase their talent.

History

Creative Allies was founded in 2009 by entrepreneur Sean O'Connell, CEO of Music Allies.[5] In the same year, current Chief Revenue Officer Greg Lucas joined Music Allies in North Carolina, to help spearhead the launch of Creative Allies.[6] Before taking on his current role as Chief Revenue Officer, Lucas initially managed the marketing side of the company as a project manager, salesperson and strategic consultant for an array of independent labels and festivals ranging from Justin Timberlake's Tennman Records to Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.[7] With both O'Connell and Lucas' expansive experience in the music industry, they were able to create an online community made up of over 43,000 designers and numerous musicians and bands.[8] The company has since expanded and relocated to Los Angeles, California, currently situated in Santa Monica.

In April 2012, Creative Allies launched Band Art; a contest creation Facebook app for musicians to design and sell merchandise by leveraging Creative Allies' fan community and network of graphic designers. Originally just an invite-only platform, Band Art allows bands to create, market and manage a design contest as well as choosing a winning design to sell all within the application.

In 2013, Creative Allies hosted a contest for artwork about Ozzy Osbourne, which was won by Wiley Harang.[9]
