Cyberpunk 2077 is a planned action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt RED, based on the Cyberpunk series of tabletop role-playing games.[2][3] Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a dystopian futuristic world in which ultra-modern technology co-exists with a degenerated human society. First announced in May 2012, as of May 2016, the game is still early in development.

Gameplay

The developers of Cyberpunk 2077 aim the game to be mature and ambitious, with character customization being strongly tied to the plot.[4] Planned features include a non-linear story with different character classes,[5] as well as both first-person and third-person perspectives.[6][7]

Lead writer Sebastian Stępień said the game will have non-player characters speaking in non-English languages.[8] Player characters who don't speak the language will have to buy a translator implant to understand them.[9] Stępień also said they would try to get native speakers to do the voices.[10] Stępień has stated that "You can't reliably recreate [the] street slang of Los Angeles or some other American city; you can't simply dub it and reproduce those emotions, rhythm of speech, mannerisms... Otherwise we'd simply hear that Polish actors are trying to imitate Americans. That won't work."[10]

Development

Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD Projekt RED, announced the game during the live stream of the CD Projekt RED Group Summer Conference on 30 May 2012.

On 8 December 2015, in a tweet, in response to a question, Marcin Momot, CD Projekt RED's Community Lead confirmed that the game was still in development.[11]

On 17 March 2016, in an interview with Danny O'Dwyer on GameSpot's The Lobby podcast, CD Projekt RED's CEO, Marcin Iwinski, stated that the studio is still committed to developing Cyberpunk 2077.[12]

On 10 May 2016, Kotaku reported that the project team was working on the development tools to be used to make the game, and that it won't impact the development.[13]
