Derrick Gosselin

Derrick Philippe Boduin Gosselin (born 12 September 1956) is a Belgian engineer and economist. Chairman of the Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK-CEN and a fellow of the Royal Academy of Belgium. Founder of the Institute for Futures Research.

Government career

He is on the Board of Governors of the Royal Higher Institute for Defence [1] and was appointed in 2013 Honorary Consul of France to Belgium.

He was Head of Cabinet of the Minister-President of the Flemish Government. Author and architect of the New Industrial Policy for Flanders [2] including the setup of an Industrial Transformations Fund (TINA). During that period he was also government commissioner of the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology of Flanders (IWT). He started his career as attaché for Innovation and Technology at the department for Scientific Policy within the Office of the Belgium Prime Minister.

Academic career

Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Ghent University. He is an associate fellow at the University of Oxford: Green Templeton College and the Oxford Martin School. He is the founder-director of the Institute for Futures Research at Ghent University.

He is an elected Fellow of both the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts.[3] and the Academia Europaea. He was Fellow of Hogenheuvel College (2007-2009) at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

He is a member of the Global Agenda Councils of the World Economic Forum and was an associate fellow of the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS), Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford (2005-2009); board member of the European Council of Applied Sciences and Engineering (Euro-CASE) (2008-2011) and President of Flanders Business School (1999-2003). His research focuses on decision making in highly complex and uncertain situations (Wicked problems, Futures Studies, Complexity theory) [4] The so-called Futures en Foresight research based on strategic scenario planning or strategic conversations. He worked with Sir David King (scientist), Lord Martin Rees, Ian Goldin, Steve Rayner, John Lennox and Peter Piot.

He is the Senior Member of the Oxford University Belgo-Luxembourgish Society OUBLS.[5]

Business career

Jointed with Baron Julien De Wilde and Baron John J. Goossens the Alcatel group in 1990 as a member of the executive committee. From 2002 till 2009: Suez/GDF-Suez/Engie as executive vice president of the international energy branch.

Education

Degrees in engineering, economics and business administration at Ghent University, Vlerick Business School, University of Oxford (Green Templeton College), London Business School, Harvard Business School and INSEAD.
