Dublin/Pleasanton (also and originally known as East Dublin/Pleasanton[5][6]) is a Bay Area Rapid Transit station on the border of Dublin and Pleasanton. The station is fed by twenty local and regional bus lines from five different providers.

The station consists of an island platform located in the center median of Interstate 580. Parking lots for the station are located on both sides of the freeway. It is somewhat unique in that trains travel down a long, somewhat rural stretch of Interstate 580 between Castro Valley and Dublin to get to the station. It is also notable in having transit service to the city of Modesto, over 55 miles (89 km) away. Local bus service is provided by WHEELS. Connection to ACE's Pleasanton station is available through WHEELS route 54.

History

Service at the station began on May 10, 1997.[7] It was originally intended to be called the East Dublin/Pleasanton station, and was at one time shown as such on maps, to differentiate it from the planned West Dublin/Pleasanton station. However, the West Dublin/Pleasanton station did not actually open until 2011, and the "East" designator is not commonly used; station signage and route maps use the shorter name.

The station features a "wave" design motif, most notably in the titanium canopy roof over the passenger platform, which has a silhouette of five curves intended to both echo the shape of the nearby hills in Dublin and "represent the sound waves generated by BART's electric propulsion."[8]

An adjacent transit-oriented development on the Dublin side of the station finished construction in 2006.[9] The development includes housing, retail, and a new BART parking garage.[9]

Tri-Delta transit previously offered connections to Antioch from this station, however the 'Delta Express' route was discontinued on February 24th, 2012.

Connections

Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach route 6 stops at this station on its route between Stockton and San Jose with six daily trips as does line 34 between Stockton and San Francisco with its two daily trips, both each way.[10][11] Altamont Commuter Express (ACE), a diesel commuter rail service that runs between Stockton and San Jose runs though areas near the station in Pleasanton and is considering a direct connection from the Pleasanton ACE station.[12]

The Iron Horse Regional Trail connects to both the north and south sides of the station.
