Lodhran District (Urdu: ضِلع لودهراں‎), is a district in the Punjab, Pakistan - the city of Lodhran is the capital of the district. It is located on the northern side of River Sutlej. It is bounded to the north by the districts of Multan, Khanewal and Vehari, to the south by Bahawalpur, to the east lie the districts of Vehari and Bahawalpur; while district Multan lies on the western side. It has the lowest Human Development Index of all districts in Punjab.

Administration

Lodhran is spread over an area of 1,790 square kilometres and is subdivided into three tehsils (Lodhran, Kahror Pakka, Dunyapur) which contain a total of 73 Union Councils:[1]

Following are the demographics of the Lodhran district, by spoken language:

Inhabitants of District speak a great variety of Punjabi dialects, although few of these dialects are called as separate language “Saraiki”, but because of good and loving nature of people there is no distinction or hate among different dialects and have a mix culture of Great (North and South) Punjab.

  • Riyasti (Local dialect spoken by 45% of district population)
  • Majhi ( Standard Punjabi dialect spoken by 34% of district population specially in cities and border area with Khanewal and Vehari districts)
  • Haryanvi (10% population speaks this language especially in cities)
  • Multani (4% population near Border area with Multan district)

Other Languages include:

  • Urdu is mother tongue of few people but being national language is spoken and understood by the sizeable population.
  • English is also understood and spoken by the educated elite.
  • Oad language is mother tongue of all Oad trib & they are speaks well.

Geography

The main towns of the district are: Kamal pur jatial(Noorpur), Dhoray Wala, Danwran , Riddan Wala, Dhanote,Moza Malanhas, Rajahpur Sadaat,FAKHRAN ABAD, Bahmni Wala, Alipur Kanju, Bahawal Garh, Bela Wahga, Sui Wala, Rukanpur, Chimna, Layyalpur, Chelawahin, Adamwahim, Khanwah Ghallwan, Qureshi Wala, Qutabpur,Chak no.307/W.B Darbar Sultan Ayoub Qatal, Danwran, Thathi Sameija, Choki Masti Khan, Amirpur Sadat,chak in dunya pur 341/W.B,342/W.B,343/W.b,345/W.b,346/W.B,321/W.B,319/W.B, 358/W.B, 359/W.B, Fatehpur, Makhdoom Ali, Wahi Salamat Rai and Jallah Arain. The total area of forest is 1,843 acres (7.46 km2).

The entire district is situated on a smooth plain. The sub-soil water in Dunyapur sub-division is brackish, while that in Kahror Pakka and Lodhran sub-divisions is sweet. The average rainfall in the district is 71 mm.

Population

Agriculture

The main crops are cotton and wheat, others includes rice, sunflower, and sugar cane. The main fruit that are cultivated are citrus, mango, Orange and guava, while the main vegetables are onion, tomato, potato and cauliflower.

Climate

The climate of the district is hot and dry in summer and cold in winter. The maximum and minimum temperature ranges between 52 °C and 28 °C in summer. During winter, the temperature fluctuates between 21 °C and 5 °C.

Industry

(1)Lodhran has become the first city of Pakistan exporting high quality cotton seed and their processing products to China.[citation needed] (2)JKT mango form .1st international export high quality mango's. (3)District dhanot is 1st start shed form concept (Shrbuzh & Cucumber)and supply his product the entire of Pakistan all city's.

Infrastructure

The district has a total metaled road-length of 853 kilometres. The district is linked with Multan, Bahawalpur, Vehari and Khanewal districts through metaled roads. It also connects to Jalal Pur Pir Wala.

The main Peshawar-Karachi railway line passes through Lodhran district and links the Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Vehari districts.

There are three grid stations in the district (ranging in capacity from 66 KV to 132 KV), and eight telephone exchanges operating in the district (ranging in capacity from 300 lines to 2,132 lines). Cellular phone services are available in the district but very poor services in some rural areas.

Lodhran Tehsil: There are 325 schools, 9 colleges, 23 hospitals, 10 police stations, 11 railway stations, 52 post offices,one radio station and 20 banks in Lodhran.

Kahror Pakka Tehsil: There are 399 schools, 6 colleges, 9 hospitals, 13 police stations, 3 railway station, 45 post offices and 30 banks.

Dunyapur Tehsil: There are 154 schools, 4 college, 3 main hospital, 3 police stations, 1 railway station, 18 post offices and 6 banks. Infrastructure of Lodhran District.
