Eastwood High School is a high school in the city of El Paso, Texas, USA.

History

Eastwood High School, "Home of El Paso's Finest," is located in the city of El Paso, Texas. Eastwood had its first graduating senior class in 1965; today Eastwood High School has 400+ graduates annually. The school is in the Ysleta Independent School District. In 1976, Eastwood High School Troopers won the Class 4A(now 6A) State Championship in basketball as the underdog of the state tourney, as of 2015 the feat has yet to be duplicated by any other El Paso basketball team.

In 2013 the Texas UIL changed the realignments. As of 2014 Eastwood High School is now in the UIL 6A division and the only 6A high school in the Ysleta Independent School District.[2]

    • The speech and debate team at Eastwood High School has evolved into a powerhouse, winning sweepstakes awards at numerous Texas Forensics Association Tournaments. Recently, The Trooper Speech and Debate team has contented at Regional/State UIL tournaments and will be competing at the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament in Dallas.

    • Won the Texas 4A State Championship in 1976, their then-JV Coach, Gary Pippen, is the Head Basketball Coach

  • Football
    • In the 1970s-early 1990s Eastwood's football team was one of the best teams in El Paso, and had heated rivalries with Coronado, Bel Air (Battle of Helmet rivals used to meet in the Sun Bowl) and Hanks because of their success. The last championship Eastwood has won was in 1999 when they defeated Coronado for the Bi-District title. Since then, though, Eastwood had been one on the least competitive teams in District 1-5A. Eastwood lost 25 straight games, beginning with two consecutive 0-10 seasons in 2008 and 2009. Eastwood finally defeated Riverside High School in a 32-26 in a thriller to end their losing streak in 2010. Eastwood finished off the season 3-7. Since then, The program at Eastwood High School has been rebuild leading to a playoff appearance against Frenship in the 2014-2015 season under the leadership of Head coach Phil Barrios. The Final score was 51-21; Frenship. Since then, the program has taken new leadership from former assistant coach, Julio Lopez. The program went 9-3 overall this past season(2015)losing to Arlington Lamar 28-35 in the area championship, restoring its dominance on the gridirons of El Paso, Tx.
