Awards Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross

Eberhard Thunert (22 November 1899 – 4 May 1964) was a highly decorated Generalleutnant in the Wehrmacht during World War II who commanded the 1. Panzer-Division. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Eberhard Thunert was captured by American troops in Austria in 1945 and was released in 1947.
