Edward J. Hannan

Edward James Hannan FAA (1921 – 7 January 1994)[1] was an Australian statistician who is the co-discoverer of the Hannan–Quinn information criterion. He studied at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Patrick A. P. Moran.[2] For the majority of his working life, he was attached the Australian National University. The Statistical Society of Australia awarded him the Pitman Medal in recognition of his life's work.[3] In 1970 he was elected to the Australian Academy of Science. He also won the 1979 Thomas Ranken Lyle Medal of the Australian Academy of Science.[4][5]
Hannan is the namesake of the Hannan Medal awarded by the Australian Academy of Science.
