Elwyn Riley Shaw

Elwyn Riley Shaw (October 19, 1888 – July 18, 1950) was a United States federal judge.

Born in Lyndon, Illinois, Shaw received an LL.B. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1910, and immediately entered private practice in Freeport, Illinois. He was a judge on the Supreme Court of Illinois from 1933 to 1942, serving as Chief Justice from 1938 to 1939. He was a member of the National Railway Labor Panel in 1943.

On March 7, 1944, Shaw was nominated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois vacated by Charles Edgar Woodward. Shaw was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 3, 1944, and received his commission on May 9, 1944. Shaw served in that capacity until his death, in 1950.
