Enonic eXperience Platform, formerly known as "Enonic CMS", is an open source web content management system software, built on Java technology, developed by Enonic AS.[1] The company was founded in Oslo, Norway in 2000.

History

The first official version was released in 2001 (Enonic Vertical Site 1.0).

Version 4.0 of the CMS was released in June 2006.[2]

Version 4.1 of the CMS was released in March 2007, adding support for Sun and Apache Tomcat app servers, and MySQL and Apache Derby databases.[3]

In 2011, Enonic went open source making the Enonic CMS Community Edition free to use for all.[4]

In 2013, version 4.7 was released, incorporating Elasticsearch as a core element in the product.

In February, 2015, version 5.0 of Enonic CMS was released. This version has been renamed Enonic eXperience Platform, due to the fundamental changes to the platform (the entire product was rebuilt from scratch). [5] [6]

In February, 2016, a marketplace for Enonic XP apps, libraries and starter kits was launched. Enonic Market is a place to share and discover web applications and other projects for Enonic XP, where most is free and open source. Applications on Enonic Market can be installed directly from the Enonic XP admin interface. [7]
