Initially, the Euroleague gave out MVP awards for both the regular season and top 16 stages of the competition. The PIR statistical formula was used to determine these awards, rather than an actual voting process. Since these stages of the season only encompassed a portion of the actual Euroleague full season, these awards were eventually phased out. The Euroleague then created the Euroleague MVP of the Month award, which was a more fitting and appropriate award to give out instead for individual stages of the season, along with the Euroleague Full Season MVP award, which is decided by an actual voting process, and covers the entire Euroleague season, until the Euroleague Final Four.
