Farsley Celtic F.C. are a football club based in Farsley, in West Yorkshire, England. They were established in 2010 after the disbandment of Farsley Celtic A.F.C. and commenced playing in the Northern Counties East Football League Premier Division as Farsley A.F.C.[1][2][3] The club gained promotion to the Northern Premier League Division One North in the 2011–12 season.

In May 2015 they were allowed to add the 'Celtic' suffix to their name, thus becoming Farsley Celtic F.C.

History

First season 2010–11

Farsley A.F.C's first competitive match was a League game which finished in an 8–2 win away at Arnold Town on 7 August 2010. Farsley A.F.C's first competitive home match was a 3–2 win over Brighouse Town in the Presidents Cup, while their first home league match was also against Brighouse Town, which ended in a 2–1 loss.

After starting the season in good form, Farsley struggled with momentum in the winter months and were on the backfoot in the league chase with Bridlington Town and Parkgate. However, they embarked on a 14-game unbeaten run in the league which saw them crowned champions on the penultimate week of the season. During the run, Farsley also made progress in the NCEL League and Presidents Cups where they reached the final in both and had the chance to complete the league and cups treble, a feat no NCEL team had previously achieved. Unfortunately, the President's Cup final ended in a heavy 5–1 defeat to Tadcaster Albion. There was better news in the League Cup, however, which was won with a 1–0 win over Winterton Rangers; an 88th-minute goal from Ryan Watson securing the trophy.

It was confirmed on 20 May 2011, by the FA, that Farsley AFC would be promoted from the NCEL, and would play the 2011–12 season in the Northern Premier League Division One North.

2011–12

Despite an unsteady start to the campaign with a 3–1 defeat against Lancaster City FC, Farsley soon found their feet in their new surroundings and climbed into the play-off spots with a succession of positive results. October 2011 saw Farsley compete in their first ever FA competition match which was in the FA Trophy at home to Curzon Ashton. The match ended 2–2 and went to a replay in Tamside, which Curzon won 2–0. The month also coincided with a dip in form as the club slipped down the table, however fortunes soon changed and a run of results over the winter period saw them close back in on the play-off spots.

The season ended with a twelve match unbeaten run which saw Farsley secure fourth place spot in the table and thus secure a place in the end of season play-offs. Witton Albion provided the opponents in the semi-finals but a poor performance from Farsley saw them defeated 3–0. However, there was better news in the West Riding County Cup as Farsley reached the semi-finals stages. After beating Ossett Town, Eccleshill United and Garforth Town in the earlier rounds, Conference North side and eventual winners of the competition Guiseley AFC hosted Farsley in the last four, and ran out 2–1 winners.

2012–13

Despite a decent start to the campaign, the season ended in disaster for Farsley, with the club eventually finishing 14th. The season was summed up as the club managed to score only one point in the final eight league games.

Good progress was made in the Doodson Sports Cup, as Farsley reached the quarter-finals. After beating Ossett Albion and Clitheroe, Farsley beat Premier Division opposition Whitby Town and Worksop Town before bowing out to Matlock Town in the final eight.

On 19 November 2013, Adam Priestley became the first player to gain an international cap while playing for Farsley, when he appeared in Gibraltar's debut official international against Slovakia.
