The Fiji Scouts Association, (Fijian Nai Soqosoqo ni taba Gone e Viti) is the national Scouting organization of Fiji. Scouting in Fiji was founded in 1914, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1971. The Fiji Scouts Association has 3,926 members as of 2011.[1]

Scouts are involved in numerous community service projects which assist the government. These include conservation of nature, disaster relief and various other forms of work in the community. After one hurricane,[which?] Scouts provided assistance by packing and distributing relief supplies.

The attached photo is from 1929 and shows several Fiji Scouts who attended the 3rd World Scout Jamboree in the UK presenting a Fiji Naval ensign to a scout troop in Mansfield .

This flag presentation was in memory Sydney Frank Marlow who came out to Fiji in 1914 and started scouting here the same year, he went back to the UK in 1916 and joined up to be KIA February 1917 at the Somme, no know grave, remembered along with 70000 plus without known graves on the memorial for this battle.
We know that S F Marlow was born in Mansfield and was a warranted scout leader in 1911with a troop in Mansfield, we do not know which troop and we do not know which scout troop the flag was presented to in 1929, the notes on the back say that the young scout on the shoulder of the gentleman is one of the Fiji Scouts, we can see from his uniform he is a sea scout.
My research at present is to try and identify the Mansfield unit he belonged to prior to leaving for Fiji and if possible the troop to whom the flag presentation was made.
Anyone who can shed any light on the queries I mentioned above would receive the grateful thanks of Fiji Scouting. Michael Thoms
