File:British Aden 1922.jpg
Summary
1922 map showing the 70-square-mile colony of Aden. The western peninsula is commonly called "Little Aden". The colony of Aden must not be confused with the 'Aden Protectorate', the considerably larger hinterland that was under indirect British rule.
The port city of Aden was captured by the British in 1839 and until 1937, the city and surrounding area (shown on the map in red) was a dependency of British India (Bombay Presidency) under the name of Aden Settlement. On that year, the dependency became a separate Crown colony and authority was transferred from British India to the Colonial Office in London. To distinguish it from the "Aden Protectorate", the colony was commonly called "Aden Colony". Cropped from an insert of plate 78 (Egypt, the Nile and the Red Sea) of The Times Survey Atlas of the World published in 1922.
