Christopher Columbus</a> was a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/whaleback" class="extiw" title="w:whaleback">whaleback</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/passenger_ship" class="extiw" title="w:passenger ship">excursion liner</a> designed by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_McDougall_(1845-1923)" class="extiw" title="w:Alexander McDougall (1845-1923)">Alexander McDougall</a> and built in 1892-1893 in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superior,_Wisconsin" class="extiw" title="w:Superior, Wisconsin">Superior</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisconsin" class="extiw" title="w:Wisconsin">Wisconsin</a> by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Steel_Barge_Company" class="extiw" title="w:American Steel Barge Company">American Steel Barge Company</a> for service to ferry passengers to and from the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_Columbian_Exposition" class="extiw" title="w:World's Columbian Exposition">World's Columbian Exposition</a>, and later placed in general and excursion service to various ports around the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Lakes" class="extiw" title="w:Great Lakes">Great Lakes</a>.
