The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Fredericksburg" class="extiw" title="en:Battle of Fredericksburg">previous battle</a> was in December 1862. According to the NARA <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="http://www.archives.gov/research/military/civil-war/photos/index.html">caption</a>, this photo is from the 1863 battle. The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6th_Maine_Volunteer_Infantry_Regiment" class="extiw" title="en:6th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment">6th Maine Infantry</a> penetrated the Confederate lines at this point.
