This 1,120 kW unit was built in 1951 by General Motors - EMD at La Grange, Illinois, USA. In 1967, the WPR sold it to Mt Newman Mining, which used it in the construction of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mt_Newman_railway" class="extiw" title="w:Mt Newman railway">Mt Newman railway</a> between Mt Whaleback and Port Hedland. Following the completion of the railway's construction, the locomotive was used to haul the service train until it was retired in December 1971.
