Summary

Falkland Memorial. This is the monument to Viscount Falkland, one of the royalist commanders at the 1st battle of Newbury. The inscription on the stone can be seen here <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stone_at_Falkland_Memorial_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1181177.jpg" title="File:Stone at Falkland Memorial - geograph.org.uk - 1181177.jpg">1181177</a> and the opposite view can be seen here <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Falkland_Memorial_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1181172.jpg" title="File:Falkland Memorial - geograph.org.uk - 1181172.jpg">1181172</a>. I checked carefully with the GPS which square this is in. I am standing four metres in from the north-east corner of the square looking south-west, with my back to the roundabout junction of the Andover Road with Essex Street, so I am confident this is the correct square.
