The green bordure represents the county's agricultural economy; the white drops represent the milk of the dairy industry; the embattled bordure represents the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monroe_Doctrine" class="extiw" title="en:Monroe Doctrine">Monroe Doctrine</a>. Created by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_of_Arms" class="extiw" title="en:College of Arms">College of Arms</a> in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom" class="extiw" title="en:United Kingdom">United Kingdom</a>. It was officially adopted in 1968 by the Loudoun County Board of Commissioners. The 4th Earl of Loudoun's Arms are described, in heraldic language, as Gyronny Ermine and Gules.
