American actress <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritzi_Scheff" class="extiw" title="en:Fritzi Scheff">Fritzi Scheff</a> demonstrating a Magnavox <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/public_address_system" class="extiw" title="en:public address system">public address system</a> in New York City to promote the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_bond" class="extiw" title="en:Liberty bond">Fifth Liberty Loan</a>, a US government <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/war_bond" class="extiw" title="en:war bond">war bond</a> issue to pay for World War 1. The Fifth Liberty Bond was sold beginning in April 1919, so the picture was taken sometime after that date. This was one of the first public address systems, made possible by the development of the first practical amplifying <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/vacuum_tube" class="extiw" title="w:vacuum tube">vacuum tubes</a> around 1917 and the first voice coil speaker, the Magnavox, in 1915.
