The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/opposed-piston_engine" class="extiw" title="en:opposed-piston engine">opposed-piston engine</a> used in Gobron-Brillié cars.
Unusually for an opposed piston engine, there was only a single crankshaft. The lower pistons were driven conventionally, the upper pistons were driven by long connecting rods to a yoke above them.
As for other engines of the period, it used petrol (gasoline) as a fuel, although this was unusual for an opposed-piston, or a cylinder-ported four-stroke engine.
