Black and coloured chalks on pink-primed paper, 34.9 × 29.4 cm, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Collection" class="extiw" title="w:Royal Collection">Royal Collection</a>, Windsor Castle. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Russell,_1st_Earl_of_Bedford" class="extiw" title="w:John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford">John Russell, Ist Earl of Bedford</a> (c. 1485–1554/5), followed a military career and became Lord High Admiral from 1540 to 1542 and Lord Privy Seal in 1542. He led the suppression of the westcountry <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_Book_Rebellion" class="extiw" title="w:Prayer Book Rebellion">Prayer Book Rebellion</a> in 1549. The inscription "with one eye", added later, refers to the loss of his right eye from an arrow wound on campaign at Morlaix in 1522 (K. T.
