At the near left, the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_Building" class="extiw" title="w:Flood Building">Flood Building</a> at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powell_Street_(San_Francisco)" class="extiw" title="w:Powell Street (San Francisco)">Powell Street</a>. One of San Francisco's most famous department stores, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emporium_(San_Francisco)" class="extiw" title="w:The Emporium (San Francisco)">The Emporium</a>, is to the right. While that store failed in the late 20th century the site is now remodeled. The building containing the viewpoint no longer exists as it was removed to create space for Hallidie Plaza (named after <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Smith_Hallidie" class="extiw" title="w:Andrew Smith Hallidie">Andrew Smith Hallidie</a>, an open space pit entrance to the Powell Street BART/Muni station.
