Summary
Engraving from the second half of the 17th century showing the Spanish-held Peñón de Velez de la Gomera off the shores of Morocco.
Etched by Gaspar Bouttats (1640-1695). Antwerp-based publisher Jacobus Peeters published around 1690 an atlas with a series of prints related to the Habsburg struggle against the Turks (1683-1699), and also views of the Mediterranean. The atlas was titled Sacr. Caes. Mati. Leopoldo, has Turcis ereptas, et favente Deo eripiendas Hongariae civitates, aliasque Turcias.
Size of plate: 27 cm x 11.5 cm.
