Purpose of use |
This song is an example of one the soul/rock fusion Elvis Presley developed in the late 1960s and around which much of his work in the 1970s was based. It comes from what is regarded as his greatest latter-day series of recording sessions, with producer Chips Moman at Moman's American Sound Studio in Memphis, as discussed in the article. Words alone are inadequate to describe the song, and presenting the sound of this song alongside ones from earlier and later in Presley's career is necessary for a complete understanding of its nature and its contrast with material from other periods, and hence of the way Presley's music evolved and his aesthetic reach expanded over the course of his career. |

Illustrates how soul music became a central element of Presley's stylistic fusion. The opening track of side two features lyrics full of sexual innuendo. |
