View of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlocking#Relay_interlocking" class="extiw" title="w:Interlocking">interlocking machine</a> control panel inside the Promenade Street Interlocking Tower, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Providence,_Rhode_Island" class="extiw" title="w:Providence, Rhode Island">Providence, Rhode Island</a>. Tower built 1909 by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York,_New_Haven_and_Hartford_Railroad" class="extiw" title="w:New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad">New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad</a>. The all-relay interlocking machine was built by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Switch_%26_Signal" class="extiw" title="w:Union Switch & Signal">Union Switch & Signal Co.</a> and installed in 1946 (replacing an earlier electro-mechanical machine). Tower later operated by Penn Central and Amtrak; closed in 1986. Cropped photo.
